Strong Communities

We're committed to upholding strong communities and supporting disaster preparedness. We engage with our neighbours to understand local needs and with our national charitable partners to ensure we extend our support across the country. Throughout, our priorities are to build community resilience, help prepare for disasters and to respond when needed.

Community engagement

We encourage associates at our more than 400 stores and distribution centres across Canada to engage with customers and local organizations to understand and support the unique needs in each community.

Community grants

We empower each of our Walmart stores and distribution centres to give several $1,000 Community Grants each year to local, non-profit organizations, such as schools, sports teams and community services.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is one of our donation partners for non-saleable merchandise. Our contributions help local branches provide basic necessities to struggling individuals and families and support the organization's life-changing programs to assist people out of poverty.

We're also proud to be part of the annual Salvation Army Christmas campaign, rallying with our customers on Walmart Fill the Kettle Day. Each Christmas, we donate funds to CTV's Toy Mountain in support of the Salvation Army.

Too many Canadian families lack access to affordable, safe and nutritious food. That's why Walmart Canada works with food banks and Breakfast Club of Canada to fight food insecurity and hunger.

Food Banks Canada

We’re committed to making sure good food is donated to those who need it most. Through our partnership with Food Banks Canada, since 2012, we’ve donated approximately 62.9 million pounds of safe, surplus food and food products nationally. Every store is also paired with a local food bank and our annual Fight Hunger. Spark Change campaign in support of Food Banks Canada is part of Walmart’s global commitment to provide meals to those in need. Through the campaign, Walmart helps to raise awareness and encourage Canadians to take action to strengthen communities.

Breakfast Club of Canada

Many children in Canada arrive at school hungry, making it harder for them to learn and excel — and we're working to change that. Walmart has partnered with Breakfast Club of Canada since 2003, raising and donating more than $63 million to help reach more than 580,000 students in over 3,500 nutrition programs across the country.

Disaster Preparedness & Relief

Canadian Red Cross

We're proud to be the top corporate sponsor of the Canadian Red Cross. Since our partnership began in 2003, we have raised and donated more than $70 million in disaster-relief funding to support their efforts and we’re proud to be the top corporate sponsor of the Canadian Red Cross.

Our annual giving campaign helps enable the Red Cross to quickly provide temporary housing, food, clothes and other essential supplies when families are faced with emergencies such as house fires or natural disasters. On average, Walmart's support helps one in four Canadians who are assisted by the Red Cross.

Our efforts have supported relief operations after hurricanes in Atlantic Canada, forest fires in Western Canada and flooding in British Columbia, Quebec and Ontario.
